A trip to Israel ignites parliament... Hakkanen passes the test
Finnish Defence Minister Antti Hakkanen and Prime Minister Petteri Orpo's government survived a parliamentary confidence vote after a political crisis triggered by Hakkanen's visit to Israel and his meeting with Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz to discuss defence cooperation and the David's Sling system. Parliament voted to keep confidence in Hakkanen by 114 votes to 61, while the government won confidence by 93 votes to 62. The Social Democratic Party filed a no-confidence motion against the government, while Green MP Atte Harjanne filed a separate motion against the minister backed by the Left Alliance. Hakkanen defended the visit as directly linked to Finland's security and to securing updates for the David's Sling system.
