Explosive shipments in Lebanon: Who is behind their recurrence?
Lebanon's seized a truck loaded with hundreds of kilograms of explosives in the Dah al-Baydar area while it was being moved from the Bekaa to Beirut, arresting two people on board, one of a series of seizures announced by the Lebanese Army during October, including about 245 kg of TNT smuggled from Syria and 200 kg seized at the Syrian border. Prime Minister Nawaf Salam pledged to widen the investigation and hold all those involved accountable, and Justice Minister Adel Nassar requested that the case be referred to the Judicial Council, while MP Ibrahim al-Mousawi of Hezbollah's parliamentary bloc offered a different reading and denied the party was planning assassinations. Analysts say only the investigation can determine the shipment's source, route and intended recipient.
