Cairo responded to Addis Ababa's expulsion of an Egyptian diplomat by declaring a counselor at the Ethiopian Embassy persona non grata and giving him 48 hours to leave the country. Ethiopia had earlier declared Egyptian diplomat Ahmed Moharam Ahmed Suleiman persona non grata. The escalation comes amid a long-running dispute over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, renewed fighting in Tigray, and regional tensions in the Horn of Africa.
