Gallant reveals new details about the pager attack against Hezbollah

Former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant revealed new details about the 2024 pager explosion operation targeting Hezbollah members, saying Israel rushed to carry it out after indications that the tampering might be discovered. In an interview with Israel's Channel 12, parts of which were cleared by military censorship and published Monday, he explained that Israel learned in the first week of August 2024 that a person had begun to suspect the devices, and that concerns escalated when some devices were being inspected. His account aligns with a previous account published by the Jerusalem Post citing a Mossad operative who used the alias Adam Fine. Netanyahu had revealed in April 2025 that Hezbollah sent three pagers to Iran in the third week of September 2024 to be X-rayed, prompting Israel to move up the operation. The explosions on September 17 and 18, 2024 killed 37 people and wounded more than 3,400, according to UN figures citing the Lebanese Health Ministry, while Borrell condemned them and Amnesty International called for an investigation into possible war crimes.
