Hezbollah throws burdens of its war onto the Lebanese state

The reconstruction and shelter file in Lebanon has opened a political dispute after Hezbollah assigned the government primary responsibility for shelter, reconstruction and support for displaced people, saying it is working on a program for the file when financial resources are available. Opposition MPs considered this an admission of Hezbollah's inability and linked any sustainable solution to returning the entire file to the state and restricting weapons to its hands. Partial figures indicate direct damage exceeding $1.745 billion up to April 2026, with more than 21,000 fully destroyed housing units and about 329,000 internally displaced people as of September 2026.
