Iran Announces Readiness to Confront Possible New US Attack

Iranian army spokesman Mohammad Akrami Nia said on Sunday that the United States may launch a new attack on Iran due to what he described as a tense regional situation, adding that Tehran is prepared to confront it and inflict greater damage on Washington. In the same context, Iran on Sunday adhered to its conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, despite US President Donald Trump's rejection of an Iranian proposal to reopen the waterway and stop the fighting, while Tehran awaits the final American position through intermediaries. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said, "Our terms are clear," stressing that any steps to reopen the Strait of Hormuz are conditional on their fulfillment, that Tehran will not back down from them, and that a negotiated solution is the way out of the crisis. Last week, during the United Nations General Assembly meetings in New York, Iran presented a proposal that includes reopening the strait within 7 days and stopping the fighting, to be followed by broader negotiations on agreed-upon issues, including the nuclear dossier.
