Israel seeks to increase immigrants from French Jews

Israel is preparing to increase Jewish immigration from France following recent riots, with Israeli Immigration Minister Ofer Sofer instructing that immigration procedures for French Jews be accelerated. About 4,000 French Jews have immigrated to Israel since the start of the year, the highest number since 2015, according to Israel's Ministry of Immigration and Integration and the right-wing newspaper Makor Rishon. Hundreds of French Jews took part in a special employment fair in Paris this month, and the ministry said some members of France's Jewish community express concern over political developments, including the possible rise of candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon.
