Lebanon Between Identity Conflict and the Risks of War

The article examines the risks of Lebanon being drawn into a regional confrontation between the United States and Iran, and the Israeli Prime Minister's threats to strike Hezbollah hard if it engages in a military confrontation alongside Tehran. It notes intensive diplomatic activity aimed at supporting the Lebanese state and restricting the decision of war and peace to legitimate institutions, as well as security incidents including the seizure of an explosives shipment at Dahr al-Baydar and shows of force in Beirut. It argues that sectarian and political divisions and cross-border loyalties deepen Lebanon's fragility in the face of war risks.
