Makkah Alliance States in Tehran.. Why Now?

Senior Saudi, Pakistani and Turkish officials met with Iranian leadership in Tehran on Monday in the first high-level contact between Iran and the three countries signed up to the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement, in a bid to prevent a return to escalation. Saudi Arabia said the visit aimed to de-escalate and encourage dialogue and Qatari-Pakistani mediation, while the meeting comes amid Houthi attacks on Riyadh airport and Aramco facilities and a US threat to resume strikes on Iran. Participants agreed to continue dialogue and consultations to enhance cooperation on regional peace and security.
