"Only two weeks"... Argentina threatens Britain with international arbitration
Argentine President Javier Milei threatened Britain with international arbitration if it does not halt the "Sea Lion" oil exploration project off the Falkland Islands within two weeks; the project is 65% operated by Israel's Navitas Petroleum and 35% by Britain's Rockhopper Exploration. Milei instructed the foreign ministry and legal teams to prepare a case before the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea in Hamburg, describing the project as "illegal plundering" of Argentine resources. British Defence Minister Wes Streeting responded that Argentina "lacks the capability" to seize the islands by force. The field is estimated to hold about 1.7 billion barrels, with production planned for March 2028.
