On the third anniversary of the October 7 attack, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani posted a message on X accusing the Israeli government of committing "genocide" in Gaza and saying the U.S. administration is complicit in "war crimes" by continuing to send weapons, after a brief condemnation of the Hamas attack in which more than 1,100 Israelis were killed and 251 were taken hostage. An Israeli Channel 12 report noted that Mamdani is known for his sharp positions toward Israel and has previously called Netanyahu a "war criminal."
