Study: Kudzu extract may help reduce binge drinking
A study by researchers from the University of California, San Francisco found that kudzu extract may help people with alcohol use disorder reduce binge-drinking episodes. The study included 120 adults; half received a standardized kudzu extract and half a placebo for 12 weeks, along with brief weekly counseling sessions. The average number of binge-drinking days in the kudzu group fell from 2.15 to 1.42 days per week, while the placebo group showed little change. The positive effect persisted for three months after treatment ended, with no notable side effects, according to the researchers.
