Study: Living Near Green Spaces Reduces Dementia Risk by 20%
A study by researchers from Stockholm University and the Karolinska Institute found that living near parks and green spaces reduces the risk of dementia. It analyzed 2,993 Stockholm residents over 60 and followed them for 16 years, during which 477 participants developed dementia. Using satellite imagery, researchers assessed vegetation within 100, 250 and 500 meters of homes and found that those living in areas with abundant green spaces within 100 meters had a 20% lower risk of dementia, with the association weakening as green spaces were farther away and being especially clear among women.
