The cybersecurity cost of digitalising construction
The article examines the cybersecurity risks accompanying the digitalisation of the construction sector, as tools such as BIM, common data environments, mobile apps and remote access increase the number of systems and connections and therefore potential entry points. It warns that centralising data on shared cloud platforms makes them a high-value target, since a single compromise can affect large volumes of information such as layouts, schedules, costs and asset data. It points to incidents and vulnerabilities linked to major software vendors such as Trimble, and to the convergence of IT with OT and AI systems, which broadens the attack surface and requires stronger controls such as identity management, multi-factor authentication and security updates.
