A commercial cargo ship loaded with wood ran aground offshore opposite the new Sidon port while heading to the dock to unload its cargo. The grounding was attributed to poor load distribution and gaps on the ship's deck, which caused tons of wood to shift from one side to the other and the vessel to lose its balance. Marine boats are continuing attempts to restore its balance and refloat it, while its 9-metre draft prevents it from entering the port basin, whose depth does not exceed 8 metres.
